When tasked with building a tangible, interactive experience that would allow for creative expression by the beginner and the virtuoso, my group leveraged our love for music to make a completely re-imagined DJ controller. We used rigorous research and user testing to develop a physical interaction for editing music that could reflect the user’s mental image of what is happening to the sound. Utilizing conductive rubber, an Arduino microcontroller, and Max MSP, we created the world’s first MISI controller: Musical Instrument Stretchy Interface.
